What people ask before reaching out.
You’re not the first person to sit with these questions. Below are the ones I hear most – along with honest, straightforward answers.
Logistics, location, and the first appointment.
My office is in San Rafael, CA, at 710 C Street, Suite 214. It’s a quiet, comfortable space in the heart of downtown Marin.
There is convenient street parking and a public lot nearby. Most clients find a spot within a short walk of the building.
I see clients Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
A standard session is 60 minutes. Extended 90-minute sessions are also available for clients who prefer a longer, deeper format.
Call (415) 847-7990 or email gyani@ourgriefpath.com. I offer a free 30-minute consultation so we can talk about what you’re going through and whether my approach feels like a good fit.
I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations may be subject to a fee.
Training, methods, and what a session actually looks like.
I hold an M.A. in Counseling Psychology and am a Certified Grief Educator. My background also includes Aikido and over 45 years of meditation practice – all of which inform how I work with clients.
I work with adults 18 and older.
I work with men and women individually. I do not offer couples counseling.
It is the practice of turning toward our experience with friendly attention, with kind curiosity. As we learn this, our experience of grief can begin to soften, open, and thaw. When that happens, healing naturally follows.
That’s exactly what the complimentary 30-minute call is for. We’ll talk about where you are, what you’re experiencing, and whether this approach feels right. There’s no pressure and no commitment.
We each grieve uniquely, so the approach is always customized to meet you where you are, now. The sessions are grounded in explorative dialogue and using the wisdom of your body, mind, and heart to embrace your unique grief path.
Sometimes, I’ll suggest timed writing prompts or brief mindfulness practices between sessions, but nothing is ever required. The work is yours, and it moves at your pace.
Most clients work with me for three to six months, meeting weekly. Some continue longer; some feel complete sooner. There’s no fixed timeline – we go at the pace that’s right for you.
What people wonder about before they pick up the phone.
Generally, traditional psychotherapy knows quite little about grief and loss, often viewing it as something to be fixed or solved. But grief is not a pathology, it’s a sacred doorway, a possibility for transformation. My work is about supporting you to move in that direction.
That’s common, and you’re welcome here. Many of my clients have been through traditional therapy and found it helpful in some ways but incomplete for their grief. You may be ready for something different, an approach which honors and encourages the innate wisdom of the grief wound.
The consultation call exists for exactly this. You don’t need to be ready – you just need to be curious. We’ll talk, and you’ll know.
Yes. Everything you share is held in strict confidence. My practice is HIPAA compliant.
Sessions are available in-person in San Rafael, CA, or online via Zoom for clients anywhere in the country.
Bring your curiosity, patience, and authenticity. Remember, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
Reach out directly. I read every message.
If you didn’t find what you were looking for above, don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’m happy to answer any questions before you decide if this is the right path for you.
